What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a type of therapy that uses the power of suggestion to encourage positive change. Relaxation techniques are used to help clients reach a state where the conscious part of their mind is relaxed. Their conscious critical faculty is bypassed and an unconscious response activated, leading the unconscious mind to bring the desired outcome into effect.

As a therapist, I am ethically trained and all sessions will remain confidential unless I believe you or someone else is in danger. It is important to note that Hypnotherapy is not recommended to those who have psychosis or certain types of neurosis.

How does it work?

Hypnotherapy can naturally alter a client’s state of consciousness. It is a very pleasant and relaxing experience. It can reduce anxiety, resolve unwanted habits, behaviours and thought patterns and empower people to make the changes they desire at a subconscious level.

Hypnotherapy is not harmful, but I understand you may initially feel a little reserved. I want to assure you when you are in a trance, you will not be made to do anything embarrassing, shocking or irreversible. Hypnotherapy cannot make you harm yourself and it doesn’t work if you don’t want to be hypnotised. As with all holistic therapies, there is no 100% guarantee of success.  However, hypnosis dates back to the Ancient Egyptians and has been used for centuries with very high success rates.

What happens during a session?

The first stage of a hypnotherapy session involves an initial consultation, which lasts around an hour.  This will help me understand more about you as a person. 

The initial consultation will involve a discussion on your reasons for wanting hypnotherapy, your goals and expectations, an understanding of your lifestyle, medical history and behaviour patterns.  I will explain how the process of hypnotherapy works, answer any questions or concerns you may have and then provide you with a taster session of hypnosis.  

Once you are refreshed, I provide you with practical details such as how many sessions I feel might be needed, my fee and cancellation policy.  If you are happy, we will then arrange a convenient time and date to meet.

In the subsequent sessions, there will be a welcome chat where you may ask any questions you have and get comfortable.  I use a client-centred approach and, differing week to week, I will lead you into a state of deep physical and mental relaxation.  Once you are relaxed, I will use my specialist techniques and approaches to help you make the changes you desire. 

Afterwards, once the ‘change work’ has been undertaken and you are gently brought out of your hypnotic state, there will be time for any questions you may have, further support, a summary of the session and agreement of next steps.

About Me

I’m a professional Hypnotherapist with Counselling Skills. I operate as a Hypnotherapist, Stress Consultant and Health Facilitatorin Rochester. I am an authority in behaviour change.

I qualified as a Hypnotherapist in 2015. In 2016 I started working for the Harmony Therapy Trust Cancer Charity, helping patients on a one to one basis and I also work for the Public Health Department of my local authority. I have also worked as a Hypnotherapy tutor for Chrysalis Not for Profit Ltd.

I hold a BSc in the subject areas of Psychology, Social Sciences and Creative Writing and I have undertaken training in Mindfulness, Mindful Nutrition, Advanced Counselling, and Natural Health Practice Management plus numerous CPD courses.
